Description

Named for the grandmother of an old Melville family friend, Anna’s Block is an eight acre parcel planted in 2001 on a gentle southern slope in their Westside vineyard. The rows are planted in a North South orientation to two different Dijonnaise clones of Pinot Noir that work well in tandem and bring a great amount of synergy and cohesiveness to the resultant wine. Known for producing very high quality wines in Burgundy, Clone 667 brings intense colour, structure and depth, while the earlier ripening Clone 114 offers richness and texture. Vivid crimson in colour, opulent aromatics of strawberry preserves, clove and prickly pear are immediately noticeable. The palate has rich, concentrated notes of duck plum sauce and red currants mingled with spiced hints of Garam Masala, green peppercorn and steeped green tea. The wine is fresh and lively, with superb grip and acidity that elevate the mid-palate and frame its plush and harmonious finish.
